A short review on my birthday cake from Tedboy, one of the many bakeries in Bangsar. Aside from cakes, they also have a variety of mini pastries and the usual breads.

Tiramisu

The Tiramisu had many light and airy cheesy layers, topped with liberal dusting of cocoa powder and blobs of gooey dark chocolate.  I'm definitely not an expert on Tiramisu as I usually find them average tasting considering I'm not one of those who have an extra stomach for desserts but I really liked this version from Tedboy a lot!

Burgertory Gourmet Burger @ SS15, Subang Jaya

We love all things pork so you can imagine our delight on hearing about a pork burger joint! Burgertory is located in Subang Jaya and is only open for dinner. They serve both beef and pork burgers but who would order beef when there is pork? =P The place is crowded with students and working adults alike so be there early to grab a table!

The menu changes periodically so what may be available in this picture may not necessarily be the case when you visit. The beef and pork burger choices are a main stay but I noticed the variation in set meals offered.

Mascarpone Curry and Cheese Set

No comment on this as we did not try it but the curry sure does look good! This burger comes with a juicy pork patty, sunny side up egg, deep fried onion rings and mascarpone curry sauce.

Onion Rings, Chicken Nuggets and Fries Combo

I love the onion rings, nuggets and fries! One of the better ones out there plus the mustardy mayo is awesome too!

Burgertory Treasure

Thick juicy pork patty smothered in melted cheese with a sprinkling of crispy, deep fried pork lard? Right up my alley! This burger definitely does not disappoint and is rightly one of their mainstays and best sellers.

The Pioneer

The Pioneer comes with tobikko, crab meat in pimento sauce and the signature pork patty. Nice combination of flavours that is unique to Burgertory.

Burgertory Treasure with Roast Potatoes

I spy with my eye a fallen blob of pork lard! =D The roast potatoes smell lovely and are infused with the flavour of lots of olive oil, garlic and herbs. They are not the super crispy type but are addictive nonetheless. 

It is actually quite a hassle to go to Burgertory as they are located at the ever busy SS15 and only open at night but we always love going back for their juicy pork patties and new inventions / additions to the menu. I also like the fact that their burger sets are relatively affordable yet maintain a consistent quality. Definitely highly recommended!

Crazy Potato @ The Gardens, KL

Crazy Potato is a snack outlet at Midvalley selling...you guessed it...potatoes. They've got lots of varieties of chips to choose from to satisfy your carb cravings as well as signature London bites such as fish and chips, wedges and cheese and hash browns. 

      

Sour Cremio Crazy Potato Fries (RM 6.90)

         
The fries are served straight from the fryer and are smoking hot. The sour cream topping comes with a sprinkling of parsley flakes. It was good but nothing too special about it. I'm looking forward to trying other flavours such as pickle mayo, crazy meaty or crazy spicy.

I'm a huge fan of chicken nuggets and these do not disappoint. No doubt it'll probably taste like frozen nuggets but I like them all the same =D

Yet another favourite of mine - curly fries! These were good but not as curly as McD's or A&W's.
         
Crazy Potato is probably nothing special and rather gimmicky but if you're in the mood for grease and carbs, head here immediately. Writing this post makes me want to eat it again =P

Awesome Canteen @ Taman Paramount, PJ

Awesome Canteen is garnering quite a bit of interest for their quirky burgers and old school style decor. They have artfully renovated an old shoplot in Taman Paramount so the place looks bright and inviting, thanks to the clever incorporation of a skylight.

Soup of the Day

The price for their soup of the day varies but the Mushroom Soup which was served that day seemed quite little for its price. It is served in an enamel tin mug with a slice of toasted garlic bread. Did not try this but the soup looked thick and hearty.

Kangkung!

To keep with the times, the staff served every table with a small dish of stir-fried kangkung - on the house of course since it costs next to nothing =P It was extremely well executed, super fragrant with the taste of fried anchovies and shrimp paste. I was so tempted to ask for a bowl of rice to go with it...

Baked Japanese Curry Rice (RM 18.90)

Again I did not try the Baked Japanese Curry Rice but the curry smell was quite strong so I assume it must have been good?

Paleo Chicken Burger (RM 18.90)

The Paleo Burger comes with a choice of chicken or beef and is served with a side salad, scrambled eggs and Dorritos. Unlike the usual burger, the portobello "bread" is a single piece which covers the patty so we were all quite disappointed that there is not extra portobello mushroom at the bottom of the burger. I only tried a piece of the mushroom and I must say it is very juicy.

Roast Beef with Roasted Vegetable Sandwich (RM 21.90)

Finally my dish where I can comment on! =D I had the roast beef sandwich which came with roasted vegetables and Dorritos. The thick cut sandwich slices were toasted and went well with the beef which was neither tough nor dry. The entire combo was very light and refreshing and the flavours of roast beef and juicy roast vegetables complemented the other very well.

Sambal Chicken Burger (RM 16.90)

The Sambal Burger, also with a choice of chicken or beef patty, is truly a fusion of local flavours. It's like a nasi lemak burger minus the rice. The burger comes with fries and coleslaw. Again no comment as I did not try it.

Sambal and cheese?

Awesome Canteen is a nice cosy place, perfect for a quick catch up with friends. They should probably increase the number of menus though as there was not enough to go around. Refillable water is available at a charge of RM 3.90 per table.

Al-Amar Express serves a mix of Arabian and Western cuisine. It is located outside Fahrenheit 88 and is the more affordable sister restaurant of Al-Amar Lebanese Cuisine.

L-R: Pastries (Lamb Sambousik, Kebbeh Kras, Spinach Fatayer),  Tabbouleh, Moutabal, Fattoush, Labneh

• Lamb Sambousik is like a mini minced lamb curry puff filled with fragrant spices.
• Kebbeh Kras is shaped like a meatball with crunchy pine nuts and minced beef, onion and bulgur wheat mixture.
• Spinach Fatayer had a nice zing of lemon to alleviate the taste of spinach.
• Tabbouleh is one of my favourites but stay away if you dislike parsley.
• Fattoush is another great salad and also one of my favourites as it has a variety of crunchy vegetables such as radish, cucumber and lettuce and is topped with crispy toasted pita bread.
• Not a big fan of pasty stuff but the Moutabal, which is mashed aubergine mixed with sesame seed paste, and Labneh, a type of Lebanese cream cheese, were creamy and decent. Next time I'll definitely order another side of Tabbouleh and Fattoush to replace these.

Roasted Chicken Sandwich (RM 17.90)

The Roasted Chicken Sandwich came with a juicy half chicken, roasted to perfection with super moist and tender meat, pickles and fries. We had plenty of pita bread to go with the chicken as well as a side of mayo. The thick cut fries were quite good too. Definitely for sharing.

Al-Amar Steak Sandwich (RM 22.90)

The Al-Amar Steak Sandwich is like a panini with generous amounts of seared beef tenderloin, onions, capsicum and mushrooms, oozing with melty cheddar and mozzarella. The meat was not tough and tasted just like a Philly cheese steak. Definitely recommended.

Al-Amar Express is definitely recommended with its quality food and generous portions. Next time I'll try the Shawarma which I love. The only grouse I have is that their non-automatic sliding glass door is too clean, hence I thought the door was already open and knocked into it with a resounding KA-THONG!!! =.=

Fiori Corner @ Leicester Square, London

This is a super dated post considering I went to London in 2012 =P But no worries, this shop which is opposite Leicester Square tube station has been there for ages (it was there when I was in London in 2005) and it looks like it will be there for quite some time. Fiori is a great place for big breakfasts and being located at a popular spot, its meal sets are really quite affordable.

I had the English Breakfast set which comes with two sunny side-ups, a juicy and meaty sausage, grilled bacon, half a grilled tomato and a heap of sauteed button mushrooms. Definitely one of the most satisfying breakfasts ever created in the world! 

Buttered toasts

Each set comes with a plate of buttered toasts but honestly one triangular slice is more than enough.

As expected since it was such a long time ago, I can't really remember the price but it is definitely less than GBP 10 which makes the meal very worth it. When I do visit London again, I'm pretty sure I'll return to Fiori Corner for breakfast.

Italiano's @ SS2, PJ

Italiano's is somewhat like Pizza Uno, a family Italian restaurant with quality food and affordable pricing. Lots of families dine here at night and while there are some hits and misses in the menu (definitely more hits than misses), I highly recommend you to come and try it out.

Minestrone Soup (RM 6)

The hearty Minestrone Soup comes boiling hot and is chockful of ingredients typical of minestrone. The tomato base is warm and well-seasoned. The slice of baguette accompanying the soup is warmed but not toasted. It is extremely affordable and very yummy on cold rainy days.

We also tried the Mushroom Soup which is creamy and overloaded with chunky mushroom bits. A must order!

Mufaletta Delight Pizza (RM 19)

As can be seen in the above picture, the pizza is laden with lots of ingredients. The crust is thick yet crispy and  fully supports the meaty toppings.

King's Special Pizza (RM 25)

This pizza tasted a bit odd, probably due to the extremely gamey lamb sausages and red chillies. Not really recommended in my opinion.

Italiano's Special Pasta (RM 18)

This pasta is coated in a thick tomato based gravy (I wouldn't call that sauce as I feel the tomato paste was thickened with cornflour rather than loading on the paste). I am not a fan of the lamb sausages as they were quite gamey (and since I do like lamb, this means that it really is gamey!). Think the other pastas would be more recommended as the portions are big and absolutely worth the price.

Braised Lamb Shank (RM 30)

We also had the Braised Lamb Shank as it was so affordable and it came in a really big portion. See the huge lamb shoulder? Admittedly, the meat is somewhat lacking, but what meat there is is very tender and has absorbed the tomato gravy fully. The mashed potatoes, side salad and steamed vegetables were a very good accompaniment to the lamb. Definitely not for small eaters =P

Yet another brainchild of Ben's Independent Grocer (BIG) Group, this restaurant/ deli/ grocer specialises in pizzas.

As usual, fantastic innovative salads but somehow I just can't quite get my head round barley as a salad ingredient. Feels like it belongs in liquidy form more =P
         

Orecchiette Pasta (RM 11.90)

     
This salad took some getting used to for me. The rocket was pungent and the pasta combo had the earthy, olive-y taste as the only binder was olive oil. And I never liked peas > . > I wouldn't recommend this unless you like eating healthy greens...
         

Breakfast Pizza (RM 19.90)

     
This crispy pizza was yummy with breakfast ingredients heaped on it. The runny yolk and tomato sauce slathering went extremely well with the beef bacon and chicken sausage bits. One of my favourites along with the salmon pizza below.
         

Funghi Pizza (RM 22.90)

     
The Funghi Pizza had a slightly earthy taste due to the use of truffle oil and wild mushrooms as toppings which melted in the mouth with the mascarpone. I think it's good even though I'm not a big fan of the strong earthy taste.
       

Salmone E Spinaci Pizza (RM 24.90)

     
Another of my favourites, this is a melt in your mouth pizza due to the gooey mascarpone and I particularly like how the flavours of the cured salmon, spinach, and dill as well as a squeeze of lemon just come together effortlessly.

         

Il Carnivore Pizza (RM 24.90)

       
Pizzas with meat just can't go wrong so it's no surprise that this one laden with beef pepperoni, beef bacon, chicken cheese sausage and lamb chorizo on a base of tomatoes and mozarella does not fall short of expectations.

      

Pescatora Pizza (RM 29.90)

       
The mixed seafood pizza which contains mussels, shrimp and squid was good but nothing outstanding.

       

Peach Cobbler Ala Mode (RM 9.90)

       
The peach cobbler has a subtle peach flavour (so obvious but what else am I supposed to say?) and the accompanying vanilla ice-cream makes it taste even better.

       

Classic Chocolate Cake Ala Mode (RM 10.90)

       
Fantastic moist chocolate cake covered in dark chocolate sauce from BIG (it's available at Plan B too). Was awesome with the vanilla ice-cream.
     
I don't like the metal tins in which the pizzas come though...they have an uneven base which makes it difficult to slice through the pizza. The pizzas themselves are quite good and I like the wide variety offered here that is not too common in other shops.
