Kar Heong @ SS14, Subang Jaya

Kar Heong is one of my favourite places for chicken rice in Subang Jaya. It is located in SS14 which makes it slightly hard to get a parking spot but the chicken there is really worth our patience.

Shop Front

Bean sprouts

Bean sprouts are plump and crunchy with the fragrance of fried garlic oil.

Oiled rice

The oiled rice here is fluffy and warm.

Chilli sauce

Love the chilli sauce which has sufficient kick to it.

Steamed chicken

The steamed chicken is popular as the meat is moist and skin extremely smooth.

Pork ball soup

Pork ball soup is average but I do like the meaty pork balls.

Char Siu

Siu Yuk

We also tried the char siu and siu yuk which are on par with other famous chicken rice establishments. The char siu is the dark caramelised type and the siu yuk retains its crispy skin. There is also kuey teow soup but we did not try it. It seems a popular dish though as many other patrons ordered that.

Pork Pizzas @ Skippys Pizza, Phileo Damansara PJ

Guess how I found this place? I was bored at work and decided to google "pork" and "pizza" and Skippys came out top of the list lol. This is a dedicated thin crust pizza parlour specialising in porky ingredients and they even do deliveries to areas within the Klang Valley - how convenient is that!

So cute!

They've got lots of Australian themed decor so I gather the owner must be an Australian?

Condiments

For condiments, they've got minced garlic for that extra oomph in the pizza as well as some sort of chilli oil which is somewhat like sambal mixed with tomato paste but it wasn't too fragrant to my picky nose.

Pork Meatballs (RM 15 for 6)

We originally wanted to try Crispy Fried Pork but too bad they were not available that day so we had Pork Meatballs instead. The Pork Meatballs are huge and served swimming in concentrated tomato gravy. The taste of herbs is quite strong and the meatballs definitely taste homemade with lots of meat packed in. Quite good but more than 1 of these balls will definitely lessen the space in your tummy for the other yummy dishes.

Meat Lovers (RM 26 for 9")

Meat Lovers is true to its name and is laden with pork bacon, pork ham, pork pepperoni and minced pork. It is slathered with BBQ sauce and baked to perfection. The thin crust is not as flimsy as some other restaurants' (although this probably qualifies as not being sufficiently thin but I like it this way) and is able to hold up without being leaden down by the weight of the toppings.

Fey's Special (RM 26 for 9")

Fey's Special is like a Hawaiian pizza with minced pork, pork ham, pineapples and mushrooms. The pineapples are still juicy, giving an overall sweet flavour to the pizza.

Lasagna (RM 18)

On another occasion, we had takeaway with pizzas and lasagna. The pork lasagna is a must-order for all Garfields as it is chockful of ingredients, very cheesy, very tomato-ey with lots of minced pork.

Marc's Special (RM 26 for 9")

Marc's Special includes pork ham, baby spinach, mushrooms, a fried egg and garlic. No wonder this tasted a bit off for me as garlic is pawprints' public enemy #1 >.<  Nevertheless for garlic lovers or fence-sitters, this pizza should be good as evidenced by my friends' comments.

If you love pork and pizzas, Skippys is the place to be. I can't wait to revisit Skippys Pizza and try the other pizza flavours especially the Spicy Pork Pizza as well as the Pork Vindaloo, Crispy Fried Pork and Pork Spring Rolls =D

Imbi Road Famous Pork Noodle @ HuTong, Lot 10

On our 2nd trip to HuTong, I had the Kim Lian Kee Hokkien Mee again whereas JS decided to try the Imbi Road Famous Pork Noodle.

Dry Pork Noodle with Pork Balls (RM 8.35)

A close-up shot of the Pork Noodles

JS ordered the dry kuey teow version of the famous dish. According to him, the noodles were very springy and the combination of the dark soya sauce and minced pork was very good. He enjoyed the noodles so much that he felt the portion was not sufficient =P But the portion does look kind of small huh?

The pork balls were very springy and delightful to bite whereas the soup is slightly sweet and quite  flavorful. JS enjoyed this dish more than the Pomander pork noodles and he would definitely recommend this dish to all pork noodle lovers =)

Kin Kin Chilli Pan Mee @ KL

Kin Kin, home to the original Chilli Pan Mee, is notorious for the rude owner and rather expensive food. However customers including myself and JS keep returning because their signature Chilli Pan Mee is just too awesome!

Secret recipe

On each table sits a big, clear plastic tub filled with Kin Kin's secret blend of chilli flakes. I usually take just 1.5 teaspoons - any more and my nose will run...

Dry Version (RM 5.80)

No point asking the owner(s) for small, medium, big. There is only one noodle portion served at Kin Kin and that is what you'll get. It is slightly insufficient for me but this portion is good for small eaters whereas guys usually take 1.5 bowls.

The dry version of the noodles comes with minced meat, fried anchovies, fried shallots and topped with a perfectly poached egg. The noodles are unlike the usual hawker stall noodles and have a good bite to it. The way I like to eat it is to sprinkle over the chilli flakes, "break" the poached egg so the runny yolk spills over the noodles and mix everything up. It tastes fantastic with the chilli flakes providing that extra kick and flavour to the minced meat and plain noodles.

Each order of dry noodles comes with a small bowl of sweet potato leaf soup with stirred-in egg whites. It is a little bland compared to the soupy noodles version but still acceptable.

Soup Version (RM 5.80)

The soup version is slightly more worth the price as it comes with additional leafy green vege and sliced pork in addition to the usual minced meat, fried anchovies and poached egg. The picture above doesn't look like there's much but rest assured, all the goodies are hidden at the bottom of the bowl =) The soup is sweet and flavourful from the sliced pork and is as good as the dry version. Imagine slurping noodles from a hot and spicy (from the chilli flakes) bowl of soup!

Apart from Chilli Pan Mee, they also have soup with a choice of pork balls and fish balls. Both the pork balls and fish balls taste bouncy and fresh.

There is another Chilli Pan Mee shop opposite Kin Kin but we always return to Kin Kin despite the higher price and smaller portion as there's just something extra in that secret chilli flake recipe of theirs.

Congee @ Sang Kee Coffee Shop, Hong Kong

We originally came here to try their famous Dace Ball and Beef Congee but when we reached the shop around 9.30am, we were told it wasn't ready yet. Nevertheless, we decided to stay to try the other congee varieties as there were lots of newspaper review clippings taped to the shop's window. The shop was packed with people and it took a while to get a table to fit 6 of us.

Yau Char Kwai aka Chinese Cruellers (HKD 5)

As is the norm, we ordered some Yau Char Kwai (aka Chinese Cruellers) as accompaniment to the congee. They were very fresh and crispy but not extraordinary.

Hong Kong Style Milk Tea

Some of us ordered a cup of Hong Kong's famous See Mat Nai Cha which translates literally to Stocking Milk Tea, indicating the silkyness and smoothness of the milk tea. The tea was very concentrated with a strong tea taste which no amount of sugar and milk can help dilute. It does take some getting used to but I think it'll taste nice after your tastebuds have adapted to it. The long teaspoon looked like it belonged more in a glass of cold milk tea than on the saucer =P

Sliced Beef and Pork Ball Congee

Unfortunately, we were too busy digging into our respective congee to snap pictures of the other varieties -_-"
I had the Pork Ball and Fish Ball Congee and it came in a bowl smaller than a ramen bowl but bigger than the small orders you get at Sushi Zanmai. The congee was very smooth and the rice grains were all boiled down to a concentrated swirly mixture as Hong Kong congees usually are.

The pork balls and fish balls were HUGE and I'm not exaggerating here...they're the size of ping pong balls! I think I was given 3 pork balls and 4 fish balls so imagine 7 ping pong balls in your tummy lol. The pork balls were very compact, full of minced porky goodness and very flavourful. The fish balls, on the other hand, were translucent in colour and very pasty. I wasn't a big fan of it.

The congee comes with an individual serving of ginger slices and spring onion in superior soy sauce. It was served in a tiny bowl smaller than the average rice bowl and you can opt to pour as much as you like into the bowl of already flavourful congee. Check out the picture below for a (blur) picture of the condiments.

Condiments *taken from OpenRice

All in all, the congee was good, serving was large as is typical in Hong Kong and meatballs were huge. It was a shame we weren't able to try the famed Dace Ball and Beef Congee.
